Karen bohanan

Treasurer

Karen has been at USAA for 34 years. She was an AVP in the Chief Financial Office (CFO) leading various teams across USAA’s accounting and finance functions. In 2021, instead of retiring, she took a Business Strategy and Planning Director Talent Management role within USAA CFO. She leads talent management, development, skills, and acquisition initiatives for USAA CFO employees.

She has a BBA in Accounting and a MBA – both from UTSA. She also earned the Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Associate in Insurance Accounting & Finance (AIAF) designations.

Karen has professional affiliations with:

  • Texas State Board of Public Accountancy
  • American Institute of Certified Public Accountants

Family:

Husband – Martin Bohanan – Also one of the VPs on the Board.

Daughter – Allison Kirbo – Flute/Piccolo at CTJ, Class of 2011. She is also on the Board.

Daughter – Kristen Bohanan – Colorguard at CTJ, Class of 2015. She currently teaches colorguard at CTJ.

Daughter – Lindsey Bohanan – French Horn and Colorguard at CTJ, Class of 2015.

Karen has been involved with the band program since her daughter, Allison, joined the Tejeda Band in 2004. The Bohanan family was part of the Reagan Band family for one year (’07-’08) and then moved to CTJ when the school opened up in 2008. The Bohanans are proud to have been part of the inaugural year at CTJ and have been steadfast supporters of the CTJ programs ever since. They were there when CTJ first made it into BOA finals, first made it to UIL State, the first BOA San Antonio Super-Regional win, the Rose Bowl Parade and many other amazing moments and celebrations.

While at CTJ, Karen was actively involved as a chaperone and also helped with social activities. In 2014-2015, she was the Treasurer for the CTJBPA. After her daughters graduated, she remained an active supporter: she was there cheering CTJ from the stands, was a volunteer every year at BOA-San Antonio and UIL events, and also continued donating to CTJ efforts whenever there was a need. This all led her to join The Bands of CTJ Foundation as Treasurer in 2021 when we started the Foundation as a way to continue our support – on a formal basis – of the CTJ, Tejeda, and Tex Hill band programs.

The CTJ band programs strive for excellence – not just excellence in their performances, but excellence in the dedication, perseverance, and discipline every student walks away with as they go through this program. The program instills life skills that will change the students’ lives forever. Karen is honored to be part of the Foundation and to give her time and resources to help the CTJ program continue to grow and succeed.
